Suicide Intervention and Prevention policy: a free-to-use template
In collaboration with Nai’s House and Harwood HR, we have co-developed a free-to-use template for any organisation to use, based on the British Standard BS 30480:2025 ‘Suicide and the workplace – Intervention, prevention and support for people affected by suicide’.
Central to living our values is supporting the wellbeing of our colleagues and our wider community. In 2024 we became proud supporters of Nai's House, a vital youth mental health and suicide prevention charity based in Bicester, and two of our team members attended their safeTalk Suicide Alertness training. It was a challenging but transformative experience, highlighting above all the importance of open, direct conversations about suicide, and the life-saving difference they can make.
During the training our Operations and People Manager Ciara asked whether a template Suicide Prevention and Intervention policy existed for workplaces. She was surprised to find that nothing was available for organisations to use. Recognising an essential gap in workplace wellbeing provision, particularly in industries like construction where suicide is a leading cause of death, Ciara volunteered to help create a template policy.
In collaboration with Gem Barrett at Nai's House and Emily Collins at Harwood HR Solutions, Beyond Carbon has co-developed a free, downloadable Suicide Prevention and Intervention policy template for the workplace.
Grounded in the new BSI Standard BS 30480:2025 'Suicide and the Workplace', the template is practical, person-centred and designed to be adapted by organisations of any size. It turns best practice guidance into achievable action, opening the conversation about suicide and supporting colleagues to seek and offer help.
The Suicide Prevention and Intervention Policy template is available free to download as a pdf, click here, and is designed to be adapted by your organisation.
Part of our vision at Beyond Carbon is to influence other organisations to think, work and live differently, and we hope this policy can be a small but meaningful contribution to that.
