Passivhaus

As energy targets tighten and clients demand better comfort and performance, Passivhaus offers a proven route to low-energy, high-quality buildings, but the process can feel daunting.

From PHPP modelling and airtightness detailing to certification and contractor coordination, we support you to deliver Passivhaus outcomes that are buildable, certifiable and genuinely comfortable.

  • We have nine team members who are certified Passivhaus Consultants, one of whom is also a Passivhaus Certifier, combining their skills as qualified architects, mechanical engineers, building physics engineers and environmental designers.

  • If you’re aiming for Passivhaus performance but unsure how to get there, we guide you through design, detailing and delivery, helping you meet targets without compromising buildability or budget. We offer a wide range of design & consultancy services including:

    • PHPP modelling

    • Expertise in Passivhaus Classic, Plus, Premium, EnerPHit and PHI Low Energy Building standards

    • DesignPH modelling

    • U-value and Psi value calculations

    • Design Team Support

    • Guidance on MEP strategy for Passivhaus

    • Buildability and cost optimisation

  • Our in house Passivhaus Certifier Chris Swinburn always finds a pragmatic route to certification with clear guidance, responsive reviews and a collaborative approach that supports your team from concept design to final sign-off. Passivhaus certification covers Passivhaus Classic, Plus, Premium, PHI Low Energy Buildings and EnerPHit.

  • Looking for a simpler route to low-energy performance? We help you meet the AECB Building Standard, offering a pragmatic alternative to full Passivhaus with strong comfort and carbon outcomes.

Emma Mathias-Jones is our AECB CarbonLite new build and retrofit modeller, and is also an AECB certifier.

  • As part of all our work, we ensure Passivhaus and PHI Low Energy Building projects are practical, efficient, and value-driven.

We work closely with design teams and contractors to identify potential buildability challenges early, streamline detailing, and avoid costly rework. By combining technical expertise with a focus on construction realities, we help optimise material choices, simplify junctions, and reduce unnecessary complexity—delivering designs that meet Passivhaus standards without inflating budgets.

  • We identify practical design solutions and optimise specifications to meet Passivhaus standards at scale. By balancing performance, buildability, and cost, we enable developers to deliver energy-efficient, future-proof buildings that align with sustainability goals—without compromising commercial viability.
