Executive Team



Dr. Joel Callow CEng

Founding Director

Joel Callow has over 16 years’ experience in the construction industry and is a specialist in daylight and façade optimisation. He has worked on a range of Passivhaus projects from large-scale housing to offices, with a focus on helping clients develop a standard and affordable approach to Passivhaus delivery. 



Chris Swinburn CEng

Founding Director

Chris Swinburn is a mechanical engineer with over 14 years’ experience in the construction industry. He has worked on numerous Passivhaus projects including student accommodation, small- and large-scale housing, and was the Passivhaus consultant for University of Oxford's first certified Passivhaus. 



Ciara Killeen

Executive Assistant and Office Manager

Ciara Killeen has over 10 years’ experience of combining high-level executive support with co-developing and implementing human, values-led frameworks which empower the workplace community to remain mission focused. Combining her English degree with her experience of working with social change organisations, Ciara specializes in exploring workplace language and alternative ways of working.

David Brownstein

Associate, Building Physics

David has over 10 years’ experience in the construction industry as a sustainability engineer. He has worked across a broad range of sectors delivering low energy design solutions to projects. His background in structural engineering and architecture give him a unique, holistic insight into building design.



Kate Brown

Principal Consultant

Kate Brown is an experienced project manager and sustainability consultant. Her specialisms include retrofit and whole life carbon and she has worked on heritage retrofit, large-scale housing and commercial Passivhaus projects, with a focus on making buildings better for both people and planet. 



Carrie Fung

Principal Consultant

Carrie is an experienced sustainability consultant and a qualified Passivhaus Designer. Carrie has worked on numerous large scale projects from masterplans development to individual buildings, including student accommodations, education buildings, sports facilities, museums and health care facilities. Carrie has worked on commercial Passivhaus projects with a focus on collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to minimise impacts to the environment and make better buildings. 



Wyn Gilley

Principal Consultant

As a qualified architect, Wyn brings over 16 years of experience across all stages of the design and construction process, leading design teams on an interesting and varied range of projects in both residential and education sectors. Wyn has a particular interest in ensuring buildings – whether existing or new – are designed and built for low impact throughout a long life.



Will Garner

Passivhaus Consultant

Since completing his MEng in Architectural Engineering at the University of Sheffield, Will has gone on to specialise in embodied carbon in construction. He has worked on the ICE database, numerous Net Zero warehousing projects and the UK’s first Net Zero site hoarding system. Will has joined the team at Beyond Carbon to transition back towards the topic of building physics and to deepen his knowledge on the operational side of whole life carbon.



Ramya Kuberakannan

Passivhaus Consultant

Ramya Kuberakannan is a building physicist and certified Passivhaus Designer. She has a Master's of Architecture and specialises in high-performance, sustainable design, and parametric optimisation of building performance. She also focusses on integrating occupant wellbeing, and leads our projects on the WELL building standard. 



Anton Kobus

Passivhaus Consultant

Anton Kobus is a Graduate  in Mechanical Engineering and a qualified Passivhaus Consultant specialising in optimising building detailing with PHPP and thermal bridge analysis. He joined us after completing his master's degree and has worked on both retrofit and Passivhaus multi-residential and commercial new builds. 


Certification Team



Dr. Sarah Price

Technical Director

Sarah is a building physicist and Passivhaus Certifier, with experience of working on a wide range of Passivhaus projects. She has provided Passivhaus consultancy for over 100 Passivhaus and EnerPHit dwellings in the UK. Sarah is now a Technical Advisor for the Passivhaus Trust and the AECB.
