Purdown View is the largest completed Passivhaus development in the UK. The scheme consists of three blocks of student accommodation, totalling 900 bedrooms.

Beyond Carbon director Chris Swinburn was the Passivhaus Consultant for the project from the earliest stages, guiding the client and design team through the challenging requirements of Passivhaus and through the Certification process.

Chris aimed to develop a Passivhaus strategy based on tried and tested construction techniques to minimise the risks, particularly associated with airtightness. He also inputted into the development of the building services design, including CO heat pumps and solar PV.

The completed, certified Passivhaus buildings are expected to use 70% less energy than typical student residential buildings.
