Welcome to Beyond Carbon. We are Passivhaus designers, architectural physicists, engineers, creators and innovators, with a passion for delivering excellent buildings and facilitating amazing architecture and place-making. We specialise in making complex, large-scale Passivhaus buildings achievable and best-value, delivering lowest whole-life carbon and best health and wellbeing outcomes.
Why
Our vision is a world without anthropogenic (human-caused) carbon emissions and where cross-generational climate justice is delivered with less than 1.5C of warming: a big vision and a big challenge.
What
We engineer an excellent, beyond-zero-carbon built environment to help see this vision become reality. The Passivhaus standard is a key tool for delivering this vision, as it reliably delivers climate-robust, comfortable and very low energy buildings on a repeatable basis. Allied to this, we use whole-life carbon tools to calculate, minimise and optimise total carbon, including the carbon emissions embodied in construction.
Occupant health and wellbeing really matters. We prioritise provision of natural daylight through good façade design, and utilise the WELL Building Standard® where clients want to deliver best practice for occupants. Passivhaus delivers best-in-class thermal comfort in both winter and summer, as well as excellent year-round air quality.
We encourage our clients to consider low energy retrofit where possible, and also engage in Passivhaus design on new construction projects where retrofit isn’t viable. We specialise in complex buildings and challenges, including heritage retrofit and estate decarbonisation.
